The Right Mayor, and a Pretty Amazing Council to Boot.

Having just got back from the “nail-biting” event (Mike’s words, not mine) slash celebration held by Councilor Mike Allen and Mayor Melissa Blake, I can say I’m quite happy with tonight’s results. Not all my picks for council made it in, but 6 out of 7 on the evening is not bad. Eat your heart out Mansbridge.

While nothing is official at the time of this post (around 11:00pm on the 18th), Mix 103.7 has announced Blake as the winner in the Mayoral race (by a considerable margin if you ask me) and the winners in the Ward 1 are: Allen, Germain, Kirschner, Meagher, Scott & Thomas.

No matter the outcome, congratulations to all the candidates for showing such a strong field and for making it difficult for voters to make their choice.

Looking for the election results? The RMWB site has it broken down by Wards and by the Mayoral race: Election Results

But What About Voter Participation?

Reflection is needed on the voter participation – I’m looking forward to seeing the final numbers and how they stack up against the different census data for the region.

  1. Byron Out! Byron Out !! Yipeeee !

  2. It has been such an honour working with all the candidates on the 2010 municipal election. I am ecstatic that Melissa Blake was re-elected Mayor and believe we have a really strong team in place for Council. Despite all our efforts though, voter turn-out does not appear to be much higher than last time – which is incredibly disappointing. Lots of work to do yet! Thanks to all those who voted for me – I am so grateful for your support. Christine Burton, Ward 1 candidate
